The popularity of both microneedling and mesotherapy for achieving beautiful skin has been on the rise for the past several years for their ease of application and incredible results. Both microneedling and mesotherapy are a way to infuse the skin with effective skin boosters to address concerns such as wrinkles, acne scars, skin laxity, and skin texture with amazing results.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is the use of needles to penetrate into the skin at various depths to stimulate collagen synthesis in the skin and introduce beneficial skin boosters to address specific concerns. Microneedling is a powerful treatment; when done regularly provides tremendous benefits.
Benefits of microneedling- Microneedling has many benefits when done regularly. One of the most incredible benefits of microneedling is an important element of facial rejuvenation; collagen building! In addition, microneedling is proven to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, treat hyperpigmentation, reduce acne scarring, as well as improve skin texture, elasticity, and glow.
Microneedling Technique

2. Swab treatment area with alcohol
3. Apply topical lidocaine if needed for 20-30 minutes
4. While the lidocaine is on the treatment area, set up microneedling pen and desired skin booster on a sanitized work surface.
5. Remove topical lidocaine with damp gauze.
6. Swab again with alcohol.
7. Apply Skin booster to one section of the face. Starting with the forehead is common.

What is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is the process of administering tiny injections of skin booster very superficially into the skin. Mesotherapy is a way of introducing highly effective ingredients into the skin to treat skincare concerns with great success.
Benefits of of Mesotherapy - Mesotherapy has many of the same benefits of microneedling; often having a more profound result. Because Mesotherapy allows for micro dosing of powerful skin boosters directly into the dermal layer of the skin, the treatment can achieve a more noticeable result than microneedling. Both treatments are powerful way to treat many skin concerns
Mesotherapy Technique
1. Cleanse skin
2. Swab treatment area with alcohol.
3. Apply topical lidocaine if needed for 20-30 minutes.
4. While the lidocaine is on the treatment area, set up mesotherapy needle and desired skin booster on a sanitized work surface.
5. Remove topical lidocaine with damp gauze.
6. Swab again with alcohol.
7. Administer small blebs of skin booster using a 4 to 13mm mesotherapy needle throughout the treatment area. This is done superficially at a shallow (20 degrees) angle to the skin.
8. See Aftercare instructions below.
Key differences
Although both treatments are incredible on their own; microneedling and mesotherapy do have some important differences. Most notable is that microneedling is very easy to do! Where Microneedling is incredibly simple to perform, mesotherapy is often found to be a more advanced technique. In terms of efficacy, both treatments provide exceptional results, with Mesotherapy being slightly superior at delivering skin boosters to the dermal layer of the skin. When skin texture and acne scarring are a priority, microneedling is the better treatment option.
Who is best suited for Microneedling & Mesotherapy?
Depending on your skincare goals, both microneedling and mesotherapy have incredible results. For those who are looking to treat acne scarring or skin texture; microneedling is the better option. For those looking to treat the signs of aging, wrinkles and elasticity, Mesotherapy is the better option. Combining both microneedling and mesotherapy offers the best of both worlds.
Combining Microneedling & Mesotherapy
The combination of mesotherapy and microneedling can be done in a few different ways:
1. Microneedling immediately after Mesotherapy- This treatment is incredibly affective. Simply follow the mesotherapy treatment immediately with microneedling using the same skin booster that was used during the microneedling treatment. This allows the skin booster that was administered during the mesotherapy treatment to be dispersed through the skin via microneedling, and the incredible benefit of collagen induction that is stimulated with needling the skin.
2. Schedule cycling- For those that like to do these treatments independently of each other, schedule cycling is a great option. Simply space your microneedling two weeks after your mesotherapy treatment and repeat monthly for best results. Use one skin booster in a series of 3-6 treatments, or try different skin boosters monthly to see what works best for your skin.
Aftercare
Aftercare for both microneedling and mesotherapy are the same.
1. Wash the treated area with gentle cleanser 24 hours after treatment.
2. Keep skin moisturized with a post-treatment cream. Apply every few hours for the first two days; less frequently as the treatment area heals.
3. Avoid makeup for 48 hours post-treatment.
4. Avoid direct sun exposure for one week post-treatment.
5. Avoid active skincare ingredients like vitamin C serum, retinol, and exfoliants for one week post-treatment.
6. Wear a mineral SPF of 30 or greater daily after 48 hours post-treatment.
