What is thread lifting?
Thread lifting, often referred to as a non-surgical facelift, is the use of absorbable material to build natural collagen in the skin to create a lifting and filling effect in the skin. Threads are safe, effective, biocompatible, and quite easy to use.
What are the different types of threads?
PDO Threads - PDO threads are tiny medical-grade polydioxanone threads inserted into the skin using a thin needle. The material used in PDO threads is the same material used in dissolvable sutures. After being inserted into the skin, threads stimulate natural collagen production, resulting in firmer skin with improved elasticity. PDO threads gradually dissolve in the skin over 6-9 months leaving behind natural collagen that can last several years.
PLLA Threads - Another material commonly used in threads is PLLA (Poly-L-Lactic Acid). PLLA lasts in the skin for up to 18 months while effectively building natural collagen and attracting moisture to the treated area. All thread types build natural collagen, however, PLLA & PCL remain in the skin longer, and provide longer-lasting results.
PCL Threads - PCL threads, Polycaprolactone, is a powerful collagen regeneration material. PCL thread is firm, yet flexible in structure and can last in the skin over 2 years. PCL is extremely effective at building collagen. As threads of all types break down they become common non-toxic substances that are easily dissolved into the human body. After threads are dissolved, what’s left behind is natural collagen that lasts for years.
What are the benefits of lifting threads?
Threads are an incredible tool for restoring lost volume, building natural collagen, improving skin lift, hydration, and elasticity in the skin without surgery. Threads are a safe and affordable alternative to more invasive procedures.
What is the thread lift procedure?
1. Plan thread treatment and areas to treat.
2. Sterilize work surface and prepare materials.
3. Clean skin.
4. Swab with alcohol.
5. Apply topical lidocaine for 30-45 minutes.
6. Remove topical lidocaine with damp sterile gauze.
7. Alcohol swab again to ensure skin is ready for threads.
8. Mark treatment areas.
9. Insert threads into the dermal layer of skin (larger cannula threads are inserted deeper than thinner needle tip threads).
10. After insertion, slightly twist the plastic end of the needle and remove it, leaving the thread behind.
11. Clip any remaining thread that is exposed.
12. Wipe any blood with an alcohol swab.
What to expect after a thread lift?
After a thread lift, most patients will experience mild inflammation, tenderness, and redness of the skin. This typically lasts a few days post-thread lift treatment. Deeper cannula threads often create more inflammation with a longer recovery period. The use of cold compressing is both soothing and helps reduce inflammation. Threads can feel a little odd in the skin for up to a week until they soften and settle into the skin tissue.
Aftercare
Following a thread lift, it’s important to follow proper aftercare.
1. Avoid washing your face or applying pressure to the treated area for 24 hours after treatment.
2. Keeping head elevated at a 45-degree angle when sleeping to minimize inflammation.
3. Use cold compressing to smooth the skin and reduce inflammation for the first several days post-thread lift treatment.
4. Avoid aggressive facial movements, chewing, talking, yawning, etc for one week after treatment. This is the time that your threads are settling into your skin.
5. Sleep on your back at a 45-degree elevation. Sleeping in a reclining chair is helpful.
6. Do not touch, massage, or pick at the treatment area or entry points.
7. Resume washing the skin with a gentle cleanser and your fingers 24 hours after treatment. Moisturizer is okay, however, please avoid strong active skincare for one-week post-thread lift treatment. Always use a clean towel to gently blot the skin dry.
8. Avoid makeup for 24 hours after thread lifting treatment.
9. Avoid dental work for 4 weeks after treatment.
